August 2013 – Yorkshire Pine Marten Project news

Our search for the pine marten has been continuing over the summer months.

A Bushnell camera trap lies in wait…

In that time, our cameras have captured lots of fantastic images of the inhabitants of a secret North York Moors forest, including roe deer, fox, badger and of course… grey squirrel.

On our last visit to check the cameras in August, we noted many species of butterflies and plants (speckled wood and eyebright, pictured), as well as a roe deer very close to one of the camera traps deep in the forest.

Sure enough, on checking the camera, the same buck appeared a number of times.

We have a few images we’re taking a closer look at. Can the pine marten, if indeed they’re are any in this forest, stay hidden for long?
