Camera trap reveals who left the prints…

From Ed Snell, Pine marten project officer

When setting up wildlife cameras for the Yorkshire Pine Marten Support Programme, we’re always on the lookout for features like animal trails and good places to hide away bait.

The camera trap site in the video below looked great from the start, as animals were clearly using a gap in an old wall, and we could see some very distinctive red deer hoof prints nearby.

Red deer are not such a common sight in North Yorkshire (at least compared to the much smaller roe!), so it was nice to get some clear clips of the UK’s largest land mammal – we’ve included a couple of familiar species at the end of the video just to give an idea of the size of the stags!
