Croatian cameras now on ZSL Instant Wild!

We’re delighted to announce that the wireless camera traps we run with Bioterra in Croatia are now available on the fantastic Instant Wild website and apps.

ZSL’s Instant Wild empowers you to take part in vital conservation work, bringing you LIVE images from amazing locations all around the world. By identifying the animals in each image, you are contributing to conservation and making a positive impact on the future for wildlife.

The Croatian cameras are primed to look for wolves, bears and lynx – all incredibly elusive and keystone species in their ecosystems. By identifying these images, and of the other passing wildlife, you can help researchers at Bioterra get down to the business of science.

Wildcat wireless camera traps

A wildcat slinks passed…

The images come through live, with no filtering or delays – so you get an uncensored window into these unique locations. Currently, the camera traps in Croatia are sending images in from Northern Velebit National Park and later from Biokovo Nature Park. Wolves roam both of these amazing landscapes, but are under threat – with only approx. 200 individuals in the whole of Croatia.

Using these cameras, Bioterra and the Northern Velebit National Park have been able to determine that they have at least 2 distinct packs using the park – something that was almost impossible to find out before.

Lynx are like gold dust – extremely rare and a real delight when they trigger the cameras. The European brown bears have woken up recently, and we’ve already been treated to a few glimpses of these huge animals.

A lynx appearance – but unfortunately after a branch had fallen in front of the camera!

To get involved and start tagging, head to ZSL’s Instant Wild website or download the app on iOS and Android.
