Kildare Wildlife Rescue

Rescuing, rehabilitating and returning animals to nature.

With care and rehabilitation, Kildare Wildlife Rescue helps wildlife recover and regain freedom in the wild.

Kildare Wildlife Rescue is a volunteer-run charity dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and returning injured, sick and orphaned wild animals. With approximately 160 trained volunteers, the charity responds to thousands of reports each year, providing vital care that helps to conserve Ireland’s biodiversity and reduce wildlife suffering. From hedgehogs and foxes to birds of prey and swans, their work gives animals a second chance to thrive in the wild.

NatureSpy is proud to support Kildare Wildlife Rescue with trail camera equipment to help monitor wildlife in rehabilitation and pre-release enclosures. This technology allows the team to observe animal behaviour with minimal disturbance, ensuring individuals are ready for release and improving understanding of post-care recovery.

Who's involved

Caring for Wildlife from Rescue to Release

Responding to wildlife in need: Ireland’s wildlife faces growing pressure from habitat loss, pollution, and vehicle collisions. Kildare Wildlife Rescue’s trained volunteers respond to animals in crisis - from injured hedgehogs and swans to orphaned fox cubs and owlets - providing urgent care when it’s needed most.

Rehabilitating animals with expert care: At their Kildare Town facility and through a network of licensed foster homes across Kildare, Dublin and Meath, the team provides specialised care tailored to each species. With dedicated enclosures, critical care units and 24-hour veterinary support, every animal receives the attention it needs to recover. Trail cameras provided by NatureSpy help staff and volunteers monitor animals discreetly during rehabilitation and pre-release, allowing behaviour to be observed without disturbance. High welfare standards and continual monitoring ensure each step of the rehabilitation process gives wildlife the best possible chance to return to the wild.

Returning animals to the wild: Releasing recovered animals is the most rewarding stage of Kildare Wildlife Rescue’s work. Each successful return - whether a hedgehog disappearing into the undergrowth or a swan taking flight - marks the end of a journey of care and the beginning of another in the wild. These moments restore balance to nature and reflect the charity’s central aim: to give every wild animal the chance to live freely where it belongs.

Kildare Wildlife Rescue was founded in the summer of 2022 and has quickly grown to become Ireland’s largest and leading wildlife rehabilitation centre. In 2025, the charity admitted around 5,000 animals into care, while its Help Desk has responded to over 10,000 inquiries from people seeking advice or assistance for wildlife in need.

How NatureSpy are Supporting

Monitoring wildlife during rehabilitation can be challenging, particularly when staff need to observe nocturnal behaviour. Helarctos trail cameras allow Kildare Wildlife Rescue to capture high-quality footage, providing clear insight into animal activity and readiness for release, with minimal disturbance. Careful monitoring is a vital part of the recovery process, helping staff and volunteers understand how animals are adapting, feeding, and preparing for life back in the wild.

NatureSpy has donated this equipment and will provide technical support as needed to help the team monitor animal behaviour effectively.
