New 2022 Browning Elite HP5 cameras released

This spring at NatureSpy we have seen the release of a number of new Browning trail cameras.

Particularly exciting are the new Recon Force and Spec Ops Elite HP5, the newest additions to the Edge and Elite series.

These cameras build on the success of last year’s popular HP4 models, with slight tweaks and updates firmly cementing them as our favourite camera traps for 2022. The two different models differ in regards to the glow produced by their LEDs, with the Recon Force Elite HP5 producing a faint red glow (low-glow) and the Spec Ops Elite HP5 remaining invisible when triggered (no-glow).

Design changes

At first glance, the Recon Force and Spec Ops Elite HP5 appear similar to their predecessors but with a rather more ‘rugged’ casing and darker camouflage colouration that will be more suited to UK and temperate habitats.

The build quality remains impeccable, as has become expected with Browning trail cameras.

Inside, the design changes are more apparent.

Browning has completely changed the camera module for the HP5s and it now boasts a significantly larger lens (left) when compared with previous models (right).

As expected, the revamped cameras also include the latest iCatch processors, allowing the HP5s to deliver their high-end performance.

Wider field of view

The HP5 cameras benefit from a wider, un-restricted field of view of approximately 54 degrees, which provides a much more natural feel. Combined with the almost instant trigger speeds, you are sure to capture even the fastest moving animals as they enter the frame.

Improved video quality

The most noticeable feature of the HP5 cameras is their incredibly sharp video footage, which is particularly impressive with the Recon Force. It shows a marked step-up from the older models; the best we have seen from a trail camera. All the images and video recordings are of fantastic quality (24MP, 1920 x 1080p), however, it is the night-time video that stands out as something special!

The updated lens certainly contributes to the improvement seen, but the night video has also benefitted from the new long-range ‘Radiant 5’ LEDs that give the HP5s their name.

Rechargeable batteries

Like the HP4s, the Elite HP5 cameras retain the ability to use rechargeable batteries - a rare and highly sought after feature among trail cameras.* This allows users to be kinder to the planet while also saving on their budget.

The new Recon Force Elite HP5 and Spec Ops Elite HP5 are available on the NatureSpy Shop with a free 32GB SD card and delivery included! All our profits go directly into supporting wildlife research in projects around the world.

*Note: It is vital that your rechargeable batteries have a current rating of at least 2500mAh, otherwise they will not work properly. We only recommend Panasonic Eneloop Pro.
