  • Pulsar Telos XP50

New to thermal tech? We explain it all here...

The Pulsar Telos XP50 is the successor to Pulsar's flagship Helion 2 XP50 Pro. It is an advanced thermal imaging camera designed for precise wildlife work, providing highly detailed images.

As Pulsar's first upgradeable thermal imaging monocular, starting in 2024, the Telos range will include interchangeable optics, higher resolution sensors, and more. These updates will ensure that the Telos remains a cutting-edge and cost-effective device.

Much like its predecessor, the Telos is:

    • Outstanding for observing mammals from bats to red deer
    • Excellent for monitoring den boxes and bird boxes out to approximately 60m+
    • Excellent for long range observations of medium to large mammals out to 1,800m (e.g. foxes, red deer)
    • Good for observing medium and large birds out to medium range (e.g. blackbirds, geese)
    • Good for observing smaller mammals out to medium range (e.g. bats, mice)

The Telos has a number of customisable features. The attachable hand strap can be positioned on either side of the device, enhancing comfort for left and right handed users. Additionally, the user interface layout and button functions can be customised based on user preferences.

The Telos Pro retains the excellent features of its predecessors. It boasts instant start-up, allowing quick field use, and includes a Picture in Picture function that enables zooming in on a secondary image while maintaining the overall field of view. It offers 8 thermal colour palettes for image customization and can record video at a resolution of 1024x768, saving it to an expanded internal 32GB memory. Additionally, the Telos Pro is equipped with a WiFi module that allows live streaming from the camera and adjustment of settings through the free Stream Vision 2 app.

Designed to withstand various environmental conditions, the Telos Pro can operate in temperatures ranging from -25°C to 40°C. It also holds an IPX7 waterproof rating, ensuring protection against water immersion. The Telos features a rechargeable LPS 7i battery with up to 8.5 hours of battery life and wireless charging support.

The Telos is backed by a three-year warranty, while the rechargeable battery is covered for one year.

  • Ease of use

The Telos XP50 is an easy to use, handheld thermal monocular. When you need to use it, it turns on instantly - perfect for wildlife spotting. You can get up to speed and comfortable with its use within seconds.

It has a WiFi element that allows you to connect to on your smartphone or tablet using the free Stream Vision 2 app. The app shows you a live feed from the camera and allows you to change the settings as well as record videos and take pictures remotely (up to 10m). Viewing on a screen is great for minimising eyestrain (which can develop when looking through the viewfinder for extended periods) and is great for group viewing.

The Telos XP50 is made of a rugged magnesium alloy and is lightweight - weighing about 720g - so it can be hung around the neck without strain.

It's has an IPX7 rating so you can use it whatever the weather without any concern.

The LPS7i batteries provide approximately 8 hours of continuous operation. These batteries charge quickly and are able to use wireless charging.

Warranty: The Telos XP50 comes with a three year warranty, the rechargeable battery comes with one year.

    Pulsar Telos XP50 Optics

Optical magnification: 2.5x    Digital magnification: 10x (max)

    Thermal Sensor: 640x480 @ 17µm <18mK NETD    F.O.V.: 12.4°

The Telos XP50 features a 640x480 17µm thermal sensor and a F/1.0 lens that provides a detection range of up to 1800m for a deer-sized object.

The Telos from Pulsar is equipped with an impressive sensor rated at less than 18mK. This stands as the lowest Noise Equivalent Temperature Difference (NETD) value among Pulsar devices. This allows the Telos to detect even the slightest temperature variations, enabling it to perform exceptionally well in challenging conditions like rainfall, fog, or cold mornings. Overall this means the Telos can produce a significantly clearer image quality than its predecessors.

Starting in 2024, Pulsar will release improved interchangeable optics and sensors for the Telos, allowing users to upgrade their monocular and keep it up to date for survey work.

    Pulsar's 8 user selectable colour palettes will enhance your viewing capabilities;

    • “White Hot” offers incredible versatility
    • “Hot Black” is often the best for viewing wildlife
    • "Red Monochrome" helps to prevent/reduce backlight from exiting the eyepiece
    • “Sepia” improves long-range observation
    • “Red Hot”, “Rainbow”, & “Ultramarine” enhance temperature differences of various object attributes
