The Spypoint Flex-S-Dark is a highly capable cellular trail camera that’s built for long-term use in even the most demanding environments. It combines fast, reliable 4G image and video transmission with a built-in solar panel and internal lithium battery, helping to drastically reduce maintenance and keep your camera running for extended periods.

A key feature of the Flex-S-Dark model is its adaptable infrared system, allowing you to switch between low-glow or no-glow LEDs depending on your needs. Low-glow is ideal for wildlife, offering brighter night images and longer range, while no-glow is completely invisible, making it better suited to security or sensitive monitoring.

Image and video quality are excellent, with 40MP stills and 1080p HD video including sound. The trigger speed is fast at just 0.3 seconds, and the camera can capture up to three images per trigger. You’ll get full colour captures during the day and crisp infrared footage at night, all uploaded directly to your smartphone or tablet via the Spypoint app.

The Flex-S-Dark is fully app-controlled and features dual-SIM connectivity. The camera automatically connects to the strongest available 4G LTE network and can switch networks if signal strength drops. This ensures consistent performance even in more remote locations.

Several smart features make the camera particularly easy to set up and manage. A Format button allows you to quickly prepare the microSD card, while a Test function lets you instantly send a photo to check positioning. The camera also supports firmware updates wirelessly through the app, so you don’t need to bring it back in from the field.

The Flex-S-Dark also supports video transmission on request via Instant Mode. This lets you prompt the camera to capture a photo or video on demand through the Spypoint app, as well as update settings instantly. While using Instant Mode increases power consumption, it’s a useful option when real-time access is needed.

The Flex-S-Dark comes with a preactivated SIM and Spypoint’s data plans start with a free monthly allowance of 100 photos, with options to upgrade depending on your usage. Full-resolution images and videos are stored on the microSD card.

Unlike earlier cellular models, the Flex-S-Dark can transmit both video and photos. Captures are compressed for faster transmission, while the full-size copies are stored on the microSD card.

Photo clarity is excellent, though interpolation is used to upscale images. Choosing a lower resolution setting can result in sharper, more natural-looking shots when viewed full-size.

Trigger speed on the Flex-S-Dark is quick for a cellular camera, helping ensure minimal delay between motion and capture. With strong 4G signal, photo transmissions typically reach the Spypoint app within 10 to 20 seconds.
Recovery speed depends on the motion delay setting. The camera can be set to transmit immediately after detection or to pause between triggers, with options ranging from 10 seconds up to one hour.

The Flex-S-Dark has an integrated solar panel, charging an internal lithium battery, ensuring your camera functions for extended periods in the field.

The build quality of the Flex-S-Dark is good, with a slightly different design from previous cellular models such as the Link Micro LTE. Most noticeably the camera opens at the bottom rather than at the front in order to enhance the water resistance and durability.

Ease of use

Please note that it can take between 30 minutes and 48 hours for the SpyPoint Flex-S-Dark wireless cameras to fully activate.

Photos taken by the camera are automatically uploaded to the cloud, and accessible via the SpyPoint Link app (iOS and Android), or myspypoint.com. You can also set the app to ping your phone when a new photo is uploaded – so you get real-time updates. It transmits thumbnail-size images and saves hi-res images onto a microSD card (required – we supply a 16GB microSD with this camera unless you chose the 32GB upgrade).

There is a free monthly option that allows you to view 100 pictures every month (no videos included). If you require more than 100 photos per month you’ll need to choose a paid plan – which are very affordable – especially bearing in mind that there is nothing to pay to any network provider like there is with other wireless cameras.
