The SpyPoint Flex-M is an excellent entry-level cellular trail camera, perfect for capturing remote wildlife photos and videos and instantly viewing them on your smartphone or tablet.

The camera can be set to capture photos, record videos, and run in time-lapse mode, with the ability to transmit these images and videos over 4G. It takes 28MP photos and 720p videos, with a fast 0.4-second trigger speed to capture every moment of activity.

The Flex-M can use multiple cellular networks to transmit photos and videos directly to your smartphone or tablet, automatically selecting the strongest signal available. If the signal drops, the camera seamlessly switches to another network.

With a pre-activated SIM card and full configuration via the free SpyPoint app, the Flex-M is easy to set up and manage. The plans are affordable, with a free plan allowing 100 photos a month.

The Flex-M maintains the user-friendly setup and update features of its series. Firmware updates can be applied wirelessly through the SpyPoint app, meaning the camera can be left in the field. A convenient Format button restores the microSD card to factory settings, simplifying setup and troubleshooting. Additionally, a Test button allows you to capture and transmit a photo instantly, ensuring the camera is perfectly positioned during setup.

All photos and videos taken by the camera are automatically uploaded to the cloud, and accessible via the mySpyPoint app (iOS and Android), or myspypoint.com.

You can also set the app to ping your phone when something is uploaded – so you can be updated in real time.

The Flex-M records 720p videos with a maximum length of 15 seconds. It triggers in about 1.6 seconds and has a recovery time of 60 seconds. Transmitted videos are compressed for quicker delivery, while full-resolution clips are saved to the SD card.

The Flex-M captures up to 28MP photos, with a maximum of three photos per trigger. It has a 0.4-second trigger speed and a 60-second recovery time. The 28MP resolution offers clear images, but using a lower resolution may reduce graininess due to interpolation.

The SpyPoint Flex-M has a trigger speed of about 0.4 seconds for photos, which is fast for a cellular camera. The video trigger speed of 1.6s is an improvement on earlier models. It uses 4G networks to quickly transmit photos and videos to the mySpyPoint cloud. With good signal, photos typically reach the cloud within 10-20 seconds.

Recovery speed depends on the selected motion delay, allowing the camera to wait between 10 seconds to an hour before detecting the next movement.

The Flex-M retains a durable design with a bottom-opening mechanism, enhancing its water resistance and longevity.

Battery life is highly dependent on the camera's activity level and transmission frequency. With moderate usage, such as receiving 20-30 images per day, you can expect up to 2 months of battery life using lithium batteries. However, more frequent transmissions will reduce battery life accordingly. The camera is compatible with SpyPoint's LIT-22 lithium-ion battery packs.

Ease of use

Please note that it can take between 30 minutes and 48 hours for the SpyPoint Flex-M wireless cameras to fully activate.

Photos taken by the camera are automatically uploaded to the cloud, and accessible via the SpyPoint Link app (iOS and Android), or myspypoint.com. You can also set the app to ping your phone when a new photo is uploaded – so you get real-time updates. It transmits thumbnail-size images and saves hi-res images onto a microSD card (required – we supply a 16GB microSD with this camera unless you chose the 32GB upgrade).

There is a free monthly option that allows you to view 100 pictures every month (no videos included). If you require more than 100 photos per month you’ll need to choose a paid plan – which are very affordable – especially bearing in mind that there is nothing to pay to any network provider like there is with other wireless cameras.
